In Spain or from home

Apply for a NIE if you are already in Spain

  • You do not go to the police station yourself.
  • The application works while you are in Spain.
  • The NIE is valid throughout Spain, not only where the appointment is.

People who are already in Spain often look for a cita previa at the Policía Nacional. The appointment is the same bottleneck as it is from home.

spainmate files the application with a notarised power of attorney. You can be in Spain or abroad. You do not go to the office yourself and you do not come to us in Xàbia. If you prefer to attend alone, you do that directly with the Policía Nacional. We do not offer a counter or an in-person appearance as a service.

Two paths, one certificate

  • Already there

The power of attorney is enough. The queue at the Policía Nacional falls away, even if you are in Spain right now.

  • Going yourself

Then you need form EX-15, fee 790-012 and a cita previa. We do not accompany that visit.

  • The same result

You receive the official NIE certificate with a CSV code, as a PDF and, if you want, the original by post.

How it works

You answer a few questions about yourself online. It takes about 5 minutes – we use your answers to prepare all Spanish forms for you.

You receive a ready-made bilingual power of attorney. You sign it at a notary and have it apostilled – or conveniently online via video call with our partner notarity.

We book the appointment with the Policía Nacional, submit all documents and keep you updated by e-mail.

You receive your official NIE certificate as a PDF with a CSV verification code – and the original by post if you wish. Done!
